Earth Day is a day we use to demonstrate support for protecting our environment. There are so many things that people do around the world to celebrate Earth Day. Some things include planting vegetables, flowers, trees, or other plants; walking, riding a bicycle, or using public transportation instead of driving; clean up the neighborhood by picking up trash; recycling; and much, much more.
Here are some ideas for YOU to celebrate Earth Day. And remember: You can continue to take care of the earth every single day!
1) Take a Walk in Nature: Make sure the trail or park is open, and enjoy fresh air and nature with your family.
2) Learn How to Recycle: Unfortunately in the Tri-Cities, they no longer accept plastic or cans to recycle. :( Fortunately, you can still recycle cardboard! Find out where you can go to recycle any cardboard you have and start making a stack each week.
3) Learn About Pollution: Take time to watch videos on plastic in the ocean, what it means if something is "biodegradable", or why it's important to use sustainable materials. Think about what you can do to lessen the trash you produce to help protect the earth.
4) Go Camping: Even if it's in your backyard! Most campgrounds are closed, but why not camp in your own backyard? Find the perfect day with weather that's not too warm or cold (and make sure it's not raining!), and pitch a tent in your yard.
Did YOU get to do any of things? Remember, it doesn't have to be today or even this week! If you had a chance to celebrate Earth Day and if you made a choice to help protect the earth, document it and send it to me! It can be a picture or a short paragraph that lets me know what you did.
Have a great week!!
