I wanted to take the time to give you all an overview of what we have been studying in Guidance Class this first semester. While I have had classes with K-2 for 45 minutes each week, I have only been able to check in with 3rd-5th graders on an individual or small group basis. For Bullying Awareness Month, I was fortunately able to teach classes during lunch for the upper grades, as this is an especially important topic that I wanted to go over with every class.
There have been 5 overall units that covered the following topics: Friendships, Learning, Bullying, Personal Boundaries, Personal Development, and Diversity. We are finishing up our Diversity Unit this week with a lesson on Cultural Diversity after learning about Family Diversity and Disabilities. For Family Diversity, I had the opportunity to share the members of my blended family to all of my classes through family pictures. When we learned about Disabilities, we covered both visible and invisible disabilities. As we study Family Diversity this week, we will learn about a few countries and make crafts based on their cultures. I am so excited about having been able to share all of these important topics with the students here at Washington-Lee.
Thank you so much for an incredible semester with your child(ren). It has been such a pleasure to be a part of the Washington-Lee family, and I look forward to seeing everyone when we come back in January. I hope everyone enjoys their holidays and has a Happy New Year!!
