This summer I had the opportunity to teach one Summer School Session at Van Pelt Elementary (B-180) and had an absolute blast. I loved meeting new students and being reunited with some from Washington-Lee, and it was such a great opportunity for me to see kids in a bit of a more relaxed school setting. My husband surprised me with a Blue Lynx Ragdoll, a male kitten named Lynk, for our 1st wedding anniversary and I am absolutely in LOVE. With both our new pet and my husband, of course. ;) Finally, this summer my husband and I bought a house in Bristol, Virginia. It has been such a busy summer, but I got a lot done, had a ton of fun, and am definitely ready to be back!!
For the next week or so, faculty and staff at Washington-Lee are working hard to prepare for the new school year. There are rosters to create, schedules to make, classrooms to set up, meetings to attend, and lessons to plan, which makes it a bit chaotic for us. I know, though, that we are all looking forward to a fresh start this year and I for one am extremely excited.
The School Counseling Program is something that is always changing throughout the year as I make sure to tailor the program to meet specific students' needs here at Washington-Lee. So in my view, things are changing a little bit and I have new lessons and small groups planned out for the year. For students and parents/guardians, I am happy to say that overall things will remain the same. You can contact me through e-mail, phone, or scheduling a meeting; I will continue teaching K-2 once a week and 3rd-5th according to teacher's schedules; individual and small group counseling will happen on a parent and/or teacher request basis.
Something new for this year is that I will be taking on the role as a Coach for our Girls On The Run (GOTR) Team here at Washington-Lee! Alongside me is Officer Loudy and Mrs. Goss (CIS Site Coordinator), and I am so excited that we are bringing this program back to Washington-Lee. It is my first year being involved in GOTR, but I have heard many wonderful things about its successes in individual and groups lives, and cannot wait to learn more and mentor young women here at our school.
Please do not hesitate to leave a comment, e-mail me, call me, or set up a meeting with me if I can help you with the start of the new year. I look forward to seeing you all again!! Enjoy your last week of Summer Vacation. :)
