For 3rd-5th grade, I had a lot of fun planning lessons around preparing for the SOL Tests. 5th Graders made a foldable that included tips on how to take tests (slash the trash, circle vocabulary, etc.). Since only half the class had Guidance, they also made a small foldable for the other class that included 3 major tips and/or words of encouragement. 4th Graders had the theme "Rock the Test" and made a "Playlist for Success" (tips on how to do well) that was an acrostic for their name! I was impressed with what they came up with. Finally, 3rd Grade had two lessons that had the theme of Baseball; SOL Test Day was like Game Day, their review days with the class was like practice, and they all had to fill in a Game Day Playbook with tips on how to take tests. They had a Game Day Promise they made to their teachers, and parents also wrote notes of encouragement to their children for each day of testing. I really loved how well it turned out and will definitely do this next year as well.
I will not have any more Guidance Classes with 3rd-5th Grade and I will only have 2 more weeks with K-2nd Grade. I cannot believe how quickly time has flown, but I do believe that this year has been an incredibly successful year full of learning and fun.
